Zelva is an independent botanical design studio based in Melbourne. We design functional scent systems for interior spaces, treating scent as part of the environment alongside air, materials, scale, and time.

Functional scent systems are botanical blends designed to integrate into an environment and behave consistently over time. Rather than delivering a single scent moment, they respond to interior conditions and support how a space is used.

Zelva Collection blends are designed to work reliably across a wide range of interior spaces, including most homes and studios. They are composed to integrate well under typical variations in room size, airflow, and daily use.

For spaces with more specific conditions, such as unusual scale, strong ventilation, or specialised usage, bespoke blends allow the system to be tailored precisely to the environment.

Most people are well served by the Zelva Collection blends, which are designed to work reliably across general interior conditions.

A bespoke blend is appropriate when you want a system designed specifically for your space, how it’s used, and how you respond to scent. Rather than adapting to a pre-set composition, the system is built around your environment from the outset.

Most diffuser oils are designed to create an immediate impression or evoke a specific mood. Zelva systems work at the level of the environment. By shaping how a space behaves over time, they allow emotional responses to arise naturally, rather than relying on scent alone.

Zelva compositions are made exclusively from natural essential oils extracted from resins, woods, leaves, roots, and citrus peels. We do not use synthetic fragrance compounds, isolates, or aroma additives. Each formula is built through proportion and balance, with materials selected for how they behave in space over time rather than for intensity alone.

No scent can be considered universally pet-friendly, as animals respond differently to aromatic environments. Zelva blends are designed with restraint and balance, avoiding aggressive diffusion and unnecessary intensity. As with any diffuser use, we recommend diffusing lightly, ensuring good ventilation, and allowing animals to leave the space freely.

Zelva blends are designed for ultrasonic, water-based diffusers commonly used in homes and studios. These allow the compositions to diffuse evenly and behave as intended within interior spaces. Higher-output or nebulising diffusers may require significantly reduced dosage and are not recommended for continuous use.

Zelva blends are designed and tested for ultrasonic (water-based) diffusers, where evaporation remains controlled and the blend behaves as intended.

Non-ultrasonic diffusers (heat or passive) change how oils evaporate and can alter balance, intensity, and duration. Because of this, results will differ from the designed experience.

For consistent behaviour and intended results, we recommend ultrasonic diffusion.
